Introduction
We’re dying.
All of us.
It may sound dark. But it’s the truth.
Life fades away in the blink of an eye.
One moment here, the next gone.
The grass withers and the flower fades…
Life is fleeting.
We all must face this reality sometime.
When we do, only one question permeates our minds.
How can I make it count?
A Good Life
Every one of us wants one thing above it all.
A life well lived.
To one day hear the words, “Well done good and faithful servant.”
No matter how far one runs from the truth, he cannot escape this.
All seek meaning.
Some measure this by success, others by wealth, and others still by acts of service and compassion.
But no one can live life for nothing.
Every day we battle with this.
Did I do enough today?
Did I get enough work done to finally rest?
It’s never enough.
How?
How are we to conquer this?
How do we live a meaningful life?
Update
The answer to that question is for another day.
If you’d really like to know, read the book of Ecclesiastes.
Much wiser and older men have done a much better job than I ever could.
The point of all that rambling today is to give a little mental context to my week, or really, the past few months.
Codecademy
Progress continues on my final project.
As my progress continues, the more I can see my lack of knowledge.
The amount of learning and relearning I’ve done already for this project is quite daunting.
Nevertheless, here are a few screenshots of what the app looks like to far.
This is still a very rough draft. But, I’m slowly getting to something I’m proud of.
My main work this week has been implementing the recursion functionality.
Put simply, it allows a goal to infinitely repeat on a set timeline.
Such as every day or every two weeks.
Although it may sound simple, implementing it was a much bigger challenge than expected.
But, after brushing up on the Date object, I figured it out.
All that’s left now is intense testing and adding a few more features.
Thought Piece
As some of you may have read, I also wrote a new thought piece this week.
It’s titled, You’re Not Awkward, and it’s all about social dynamics and our self-image.
I hope it’s helpful to people out there. The ideas have personally helped me a lot.
You can read that here.
Why so Short?
Honestly, as life gets more into a routine, it gets harder to write these updates.
As lives go, mine is pretty boring.
Not to say I’m unhappy, just that what I enjoy doing isn’t all that exciting.
I hope you can still enjoy reading even if there’s not much to say.
As always, I will write to you again next week.
God bless,
-Luke
